Helsinki’s premiere design hotel announces the winner of the inaugural Klaus K Entrepreneurial Innovation Award

The winner of the first-ever Klaus K Entrepreneurial Innovation Award is Petri Martikainen, CEO and co-founder of MultiTouch, a leading developer of interactive display systems based on proprietary software and hardware designs. The announcement was made today at Slush, one of the world’s top start-up events.

“In our eyes, Petri Martikainen and his company MultiTouch represent the perfect example of entrepreneurship and innovation. MultiTouch’s touch screen product is absolutely a ‘magnet’ for anyone – you just have to touch it and explore,” says Marc Skvorc, General Manager of Klaus K Hotel.

“MultiTouch began their journey is 2006 and are now present in more than 50 countries with enough financial traction that proves they are creating a venerable business and can compete on an international scale. The product will inspire Klaus K guests as well,” says Skvorc.

MultiTouch’s software provides unlimited touch points, hand recognition and object recognition on a range of operating systems and are designed for use in fields including retail, marketing, entertainment and hospitality, research and education, social media, arts and design. The company is privately held and located in Helsinki, Finland.

Award background

To be awarded once a year, the Klaus K Entrepreneurial Innovation Award is selected by a prestigious jury comprised of Finnish business leaders including Anne Berner, Owner of Vallila Interiors; Pekka Mattila, Group Managing Director and CEO at Aalto University Executive Education; Will Cardwell, Senior Advisor, Global Alliances at Aalto University; and Marc Skvorc, General Manager of Klaus K.

The prize is awarded to a dynamic innovation that adds to quality of life, longevity and sustainability. It must also fill a niche in the marketplace and be backed by a strong, ambitious team with an attractive business development model and a global go-to-market strategy.

The winner has a unique opportunity to showcase their innovation in the Klaus K Living Room, a new work-leisure lobby space that was designed using co-creation. Along with a trophy created by “Seven Eggs of Kalevala” designer Panu Turunen, the winner will receive 10 complimentary Klaus K hotel room nights to be used while the innovation is installed to nurture the creative process. A €1,000 entertainment credit for food and beverages will accompany the award. The entrepreneur may use this award as an asset in his or her pursuit of customers, investors and partners.
